'the capricious nature of water'

I'm honored that my oil painting, the capricious nature of water, has been selected for this wonderful journal and is also the winner in the art category. Browse the link to see extraordinary poetry, prose and art: Equinox Spring Edition

This oil painting was a piece I did to accompany my two Bolivar novels: Shiny Bits in Between (2020) and Syllables of the Briny World (2024). Both books center around the capricious nature of the ocean as both a source of wonder and a source of fear. Either way, she must be respected and valued at all costs.

Massive Fiber Art Project!

I'm so excited to finally begin my latest fiber art project! I'm creating a large installation piece for my stairwell--felted wall art (inspired by the phenomenal Claudy Jonstra). Wish me luck!

I'll keep you updated on my progress...

Am I an artist?

I'm not a 'real' Artist. Just like I wasn't a 'real' Writer. Until I started sharing my work; then people called me a writer. I remember when I first worked at WITS (Writers in the Schools). At orientation, we had to declare our writing genre. I watched people say, "I am a Poet," and I marveled at their bravado. Are you a poet because you write poetry? Or was there a special ingredient I was not privy too? I wrote poetry most of my life, but I did not refer to myself as a poet. At the time, I was the founding editor for the children's literary journal, Silver Rocket. My joy came from celebrating their voices. Not mine.

When I got my first book published, Shiny Bits In Between, I became an Author. Labels. They don't mean much, but we all seem to find comfort in them.

So this is my Artist blog. My Author blog is Georgina Key Author if you want to see my other self.

As writers, many of us have various creative outlets. Using our hands to make something can be a reprieve from being inside our heads when we’re writing. And when we’re not. So let's give ourselves permission to be more than one thing.
I am a Writer.
I am an Artist.
I am a Musician.

We can be all these things and more...shine on!

Artists & Writers

What are those shiny bits you create in between your writing time? Not the boring, everyday tasks we have to do, but the activities that feed our spirit.

As writers, many of us have other creative outlets. Using our hands to make something can be a reprieve from being inside our heads when we’re writing. And when we’re not. Give yourself permission to be more than one thing.
